"The formative period for building character for eternity is in the nursery. The mother is queen of that realm and sways a scepter more potent than that of kings or priests." ~Author Unknown
Happy Mother's day! I know this is a day late but I was preoccupied last week working on my artistic talents, or lack there of.(See below blogs) I've had a lot of time this week to think about my mom and the wonderful childhood I had. With a mother like mine how could I not have had a lovely childhood?
My favorite memories of my mom and our home are not elaborate or brilliant but somehow these simple moments are very dear to me. I loved opening the front door to our family home, good ol' Gottes Lane. You would be greeted by bright sunshine, a breeze blowing through open windows, a wonderful smell coming from the kitchen, somebody plunking on the piano, sounds of kids playing in the back yard, and somewhere in the midst of it all would be mother.

A mom who if you asked her where something was she would stop what she was doing and help you find it. A mom who if you told her woefully how hungry you were would head to the kitchen to see what she could do for you. A mom who left sweet notes on your pillow to tell you how great she thought you were. And most importantly a mom who if saw you unhappy or in need of help would try her very best to chase your troubles away and "restore peace to your heart".
Thank you mom for making my life as happy and pleasant as any child could wish for. I love being a mother but sometimes how I miss being the daughter.

What are you trying to do??? Turn on the waterworks again? The floodgates were already opened during your talk....and here we are again. I loved what you wrote and am so glad you and I were brought to the same loving family. You are a fabulous mom too! H
Mary Kate,
how sweet you are. I miss being a daughter, too and your blog is making me miss it more! You were great yesterday! You're singing and your talk were perfect!
Oh, no. Not again. #9 and #10 are at it again, making us all cry. Although it's all true, and I agree completely. And it's so sweet and kind and loving too. (And I sure do like you, kid.) Tomorrow please write about something meaningless like peanut butter or horseshoes.
Dear Mary Kate....what a beautiful spot for all of us to grow together. I remember early morning trips to the grocery store, our home facing east so that we always saw the sunshine.I can hear the voiceds of children having so much fun in the pool,a freezer stocked with sidewalk sundaes and big sticks. Someone in the kitchen baking cookies and all these fun kids looking for something to quench their appetites. We did have some wonderful moments together....Mom
Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I believe Mother's day to be the weepiest holiday ever! I was a lucky girl to have such a wonderful mother and such fun sisters. Thanks again!
I feel like an intruder commenting, but....just had to tell you what a fabulous job you all did on Sunday! There couldn't have been a better family for the job. Thanks for making it a great meeting!
Jessica,
You are no intruder!I love when you comment. Thanks so much about enjoying the talks. You're very kind. I am SO glad it is over and done with though. Writing talks and 4 small children should not be mixed. Thanks again!
Oh Mary,
Don't we all wish we could go back home and be daughters again. We could share a room, and I could do your hair, and take you to all of Mike's baseball games, and read you all the Frances books.
I love the blogs. Thank you for speaking for all of us and paying tribute to mom.
I bought a book called, "What Would Audrey Do" all about Miss Hepburn, of course. And I thought woudn't it be fun to write one called "What Would Mother Do" and we could fill it with all the unique, creative, and graceful techniques, Mother used in raising all of us.
I think it would be a best seller!
Dear Leslie,pretty Leslie,
Thanks for your comments. I would love to share a room with you! It would the best room ever. You would walk into the room and a gentle breeze of pine sol and cookies would perfume the air. There would be bookcases filled with interesting books and comfortable couches to sit in a plenty of soft lamp light for reading. There would be dark carpet that would have been freshly vacuumed and everything would be in just the right place. That's what Leslie's room would be like. What a lovely place.
I love that idea about the book about "what would mother do?" It would be hysterical and off-beat just like Mom! Thanks again!
